Harassment of women, be it at home, the workplace, or in public spaces, is a severe violation of fundamental rights. The **Punjab Protection of Women Against Violence Act (PPWVA)** addresses broader gender-based vulnerabilities, working alongside existing workplace harassment laws to provide pervasive sanctuary. Recognizing that women’s engagement in economic and social spheres requires steadfast security, the Government of Punjab actively eliminates systemic hindrances to ensure every woman operates free from abuse.
Pursuant to PPWVA 2016, District Women Protection Committees (DWPCs) act as the local oversight body in all 36 districts, resolving systemic harassment and safety issues promptly at a grassroots level.
Survivors are facilitated through the 0800-01737 Helpline and the centralized Women Protection Centers (WPCs). Officers aid in lodging FIRs against perpetrators without victim-blaming or exposure.
Addressing harassment goes beyond legal enforcement; emotional healing is paramount. The PWPA has embedded dedicated Psychosocial Support Wings staffed with trained clinical psychologists across centers. Furthermore, where appropriate, non-coercive mediation and reconciliation wings operate to achieve settlements safely under the structured eye of District Women Protection Officers (DWPOs).
