Your safety
If someone may check the device you are using, the pages you visit can be seen afterwards. This page explains what this website does to reduce that, what it cannot do, and the steps that are genuinely under your control.
The red Quick exit button sits in the corner of every page. Double-tap it and you are taken straight to Google, and this site is removed from the tab’s back button so it cannot be reached by going back. If you are using a keyboard, press Tab until it is selected, then press Escape.
A phone call leaves nothing in your browser at all. The helpline is free and answered at any hour: 0800-01737.
A phone or computer at a friend's house, a workplace, a library, or one of our centres. Nothing you do there appears on your own device. This is far more reliable than deleting things afterwards.
Private or Incognito windows do not record history at all, so there is nothing to delete later. Open one before you visit us, rather than trying to clean up afterwards.
If you must clean up afterwards, delete only the specific entries. A history that has been wiped completely can itself look suspicious to someone who expects to find one.
A call to the helpline appears in your phone's recent calls, and may appear on an itemised bill. You can delete the entry from your call log, but not from the bill. If either is a risk, call from another phone.
If you write to us by email, a copy stays in your Sent folder until you delete it — check the Deleted or Bin folder afterwards too. Our on-site chat keeps nothing once the page is closed.
Monitoring apps can record what is typed and photograph the screen, and nothing done in the browser will hide that. Unexpected battery drain, heat or data use can be signs. If you suspect this, do not use this device — use another one.
If you are signed in to the same account on a phone and a computer, history may sync between them. Browsing privately prevents that, because private windows are never synced.
