The protection system established by the Punjab Government is rooted in solid statutory grounds. From the drafting of robust legal Rules of Business to collaborative Memorandums of Understanding with prosecution bodies, the government is fully engaged in reversing gender-based hindrances to justice.
This foundational Act defines gender-based violence distinctly and establishes the comprehensive "Protection System." It introduces actionable Protection Orders, Residence Orders, and Monetary Orders issued by local courts to prevent defendants from committing further abuse, displacing victims from shared residences, or withholding financial means.
Established the PWPA to oversee, administer, and standardize the protection system across all 36 districts. Its mandate gives rise to Women Protection Centers (WPCs), standard operating procedures for shelters, DWPOs, and Helpline 0800-01737 operations globally.
The Authority continually champions new initiatives like the **Acid Control Bill** (strengthening repercussions for perpetrators) and the proposed inclusion of **Section 498D into the PPC**, guaranteeing that a husband or family member legally cannot unlawfully evict a wife residing in their shared home.
Lack of financial means is never a barrier to justice. Every Women Protection Center hosts a dedicated Legal Wing staffed by competent Law Officers. Their mandate is to support survivors through the complexities of the legal system:
Expert consultation to appraise survivors of their rights and best legal avenues.
Active assistance by police liaisons within the WPC to safely lodge First Information Reports.
Continuous representation and coordination with the Office of the Prosecutor General Punjab.
The PWPA collaborates with premier academic and civil institutions like **SAHSOL LUMS**, **MUSAWI**, and the **Office of the Prosecutor General** to continuously run law clinics, capacity-building workshops, and joint training exercises ensuring all responders remain legally incisive and culturally sensitive.
